Tickets were just a meager $15 dollars in advance, but this small fee had no reflection whatsoever on Greg Gillis' performance. In just days, tickets were sold out and thousands of fans scoured websites to find a decent price to see the DJ from Pittsburgh. As the date arrived I was eager to see what the concert would be like. Would there be a few people out on stage with Girl Talk? Would there be any sort of musical instrument? Riding on the Metro to U Street I pondered these thoughts constantly, trying to picture the scene I would be entering. As I got the tickets from will call, Ally and I quickly found the drunkest kid in the front of the line so we could pretend to be his friend and skip the 3 block wait. This procedure worked immaculately. Skipping into line, onlookers were understandably upset; however, when they discovered we were only looking out for our "friend" who had one too many, they quickly lauded our benevolence. Entering the club, we quickly made our way to the concert area and got up front to be in the mix.
Gillis had arrived. The chants and energy in the room was intense. Coming through the shadows with a laptop, Girl Talk quickly plugged in and clicked away. Girl Talk played songs from his most recent CD "Feed the Animals" and the cover of the album was largely displayed as his backdrop. In an effort to make the venue even more crazy, Girl Talk invited the crowd up on the stage to party with him. Over the course of the next hour and a half, Ally and I danced the night away throwing 'bows when necessary at bystanders who invaded our space. To wrap up the concert Gillis stripped down to his boxers and crowd surfed to Journey's "Faithfully" looped with the lyrics from "International Players Anthem" to make for a memorable close to such a great experience. As I left the concert drenched in sweat, I replayed the concert in my head, lit a Parlaiment, and headed home with an unmistakable feeling of fulfillment.
